FR MoCA is thrilled to present SURVEY, an exhibition organized in collaboration with Bureau.
Situated on the ground floor of an active textile mill and housed in one of Fall River’s many historic manufacturing buildings, FR MoCA is a sprawling exhibition space founded by artists Brittni Ann Harvey and Harry Gould Harvey IV. Drawing on their deep roots in and around Fall River, the two stage exhibitions and events rooted in experimentation and inclusivity. The museum brings together local and international artists to create critical and culturally relevant programming. In allocating opportunities and resources to a city often overshadowed by its metropolitan neighbors, FR MoCA seeks to uncover how art institutions can best serve their local communities.
In an attempt to exist in a perpetual state of experimentation, the institution must continually build and dismantle itself. The works on view share an ethos with the museum, their formal qualities alluding to FR MoCA’s scrappy, resourceful spirit. In the gallery, a rich collage of personal histories intertwine—layered, stitched, patched, transplanted, and cross-pollinated.
SURVEY manifests as a hybrid of past and future FR MoCA exhibitions, employing various modes of display to challenge museological traditions. The exhibition fully embraces the irreverence and loving chaos that defines FR MoCA’s spirit, shining a light into the shadows of the museum’s historic home.
