Group Exhibition III explores the historical and cultural connections between Fall River and New York City through a range of artistic voices. The exhibition examines the rich interplay between the two cities.
Artists: Kathleen White, Rafael Sanchez, Bella Carlos, Dorothy Carlos, Tom Forkin, Christopher K. Ho, Brian Oakes, Tim Simonds, Marisa Takal
In the main gallery, paintings and three-dimensional works by Kathleen White and Rafael Sanchez are displayed. Their work is also featured in New York’s Martos Gallery in the exhibition Earth Work (February 1 – March 19, 2022). Rooted in the urban landscape of New York City, their art addresses themes of grief, mortality, and caregiving, reflecting the eras of the AIDS crisis and post-9/11.
To enhance the interactive nature of the exhibition, Fall River high school students are invited to write and share poetry in response to White and Sanchez’s work, adding a meaningful community engagement component.
The third part of the FR MoCA presentation, Flame of Love, showcases additional works by the participating artists. Together, these exhibitions create a dialogue between the histories and cultures of the two cities, while offering insight into younger generations’ interpretations of art and its themes.
